Autism

One in eighty-eight children is diagnosed with autism each year. Autism is a brain development disorder that can result in intellectual disability, limited motor coordination, impaired communication, and obsessive behavior. The causes are still unclear and there is no definite treatment for autism. Treatment methods currently range from behavioral treatment to nutritional and pharmacological therapy.

In 2014, researchers at Duke University received funding to study the use of umbilical cord stem cells in treating autism. The study will conduct 390 clinical trials on autistic children and adults. Researchers Kurtzberg and Dawson hypothesize that stem cells can treat damaged or dysfunctional areas of the brain.

If successful, this treatment can revolutionize the lives of autistic patients!
